Havelock North School – A Brief History:
1863 Havelock School (also known as Swithland) opened as a private boarding & day school.
1878 A new school is built on Te Mata Road (on site of the present library).
1878 First School Committee elected.
1923 School use of Havelock Baths in school time.
1927 School motto unveiled: “Fortiter Gerit Crucem” (He carries his cross bravely)
1945 Home & School Association formed.
1952 new junior school block (Rooms 1-5) opened on the present site.
1958 Te Mata School opened – 149 pupils transferred.
1963 Lucknow School opened – 120 pupils transferred.
1968 Anderson Park School opened.
1969 School hall built.
1969 Students watched the first man on the moon landing live on TV in the classroom.
1971 Official zoning to prevent overcrowding.
1972 New senior school block (Rooms 13 – 17 & Music Room) built.
1974 Havelock North Intermediate School opened – our first year as a Contributing School.
1975 Havelock North High School opened.
1976 Demolition of old school buildings on Te Mata Road.
1987 First computers introduced.
1989 First Board of Trustees elected.
1990 New school logo replaced former logo & motto.
2006 New library, audio-visual, ICT suite & resource room opened.
2008 School website goes online.
2010 New classroom block opened.
2017 Four new classrooms added
