As many of you are aware, at the end of last year several points around Havelock North were identified as old dump sites, with the northern area of (cricket net site) Havelock North Primary School bering one of them. After extensive testing, a very small area to the left of the cricket nets was identified as having low levels of asbestos present. This areas has been cordoned off since Christmas. As a result of these findings, soil removal work will take place during the second week of the school holidays. There have been notices put up at the cricket nets with closure dates and a letterbox drop has been done to the surrounding neighbours. The proposed dates are Tuesday the 27th of May for removal with waste, which will then be transported off site on Wednesday the 28th of May. Temporary fencing will be erected around the excavation area with signage on Friday the 23rd of May.
